This listing is for Poplar kiln Dried Woodturning Rough Sawn Practice Blanks 52x52x458mm (2''x2''x18'' approx). They are priced cheaper than other Hardwoods I sell and are best for new Woodturners who just want to practice basic Turning before moving on to more expensive wood.
Please note that the 2 inch measurement varies from 50mm up to 55mm in some of these pieces.
Poplar is a soft Hardwood and is ideal for new Woodturners to mess around with. Poplar is easier to work with than pine, has a closed grain surface and is ideal for painting, colouring and more. If you make mistakes, no worries; this is all about gaining experience.
The wood has a variety of colours so each blank will look different and may have different density and weight. These blanks may also contain knots, cracks and inside bark natural edges. I have chosen them as they are still perfectly acceptable for Woodturners who will turn away most of the exterior anyway. I intended them to be for practice only so if you require them to be 100% sound you will have to message me to specify your needs.
Order must be kept around 20kg maximum to keep the shipping weight manageable. Each piece weighs approximately 0.85kg.

This size is ideal for practising small pieces like Christmas Tree Decorations and Spinning Tops or just turning between centres to gather experience. Cut off what you need for each project plus a little waste. You could make 3 or 4 pieces long out of this blank depending on how you cut it.
One of the hardest things about starting Woodturning is sourcing appropriate wood to turn. For this reason I am supplying a small range of Hardwood for direct sale.
