A Piece of Local History
This medium-sized bowl originates from Tralee, Co. Kerry, where the tree was removed as part of a new development. I was able to rescue it from becoming firewood, giving it a second life. Ash is my favorite wood to work with, and this particular tree turned out to be something truly special. Having once lived in Oakpark, where the tree stood, this piece carries a touch of nostalgia for me as well.
 
Challenging Grain & Natural Character
This bowl features a unique change in grain direction, which made it a challenge to turn. This shifting grain also led to some natural cracks during the drying process, which I have carefully stabilized with Milliput. These elements add to the bowl’s character, making it an authentic piece of functional art. If you examine the photos you can actually see the swirl changes in grain that caused tension. I didn't quite get the interior shape they way I wanted due to the toughness of the grain which kept pushing the chisel out but the exterior of the bowl more than makes up for it. It's still a bowl and it looks the part!

The bowl’s undercut rim and rounded exterior, which curves inward, create a pleasing, organic shape that enhances its natural beauty.
 
Smooth, Food-Safe Finish
Meticulously sanded to a smooth touch, this bowl is undercoated with Hampshire Sheen Food-Safe Danish Oil and finished with Osmo Oil for a durable, protective layer. See the After Care page for full maintenance details.
 
Long-Term Use & Display
While this bowl is food-safe, washing it may diminish the surface sheen over time. Thanks to its durable finish, it also serves as a stunning display piece for long-term enjoyment.
