Elegant & Functional Design
Serve up salads, fruit, or snacks in style with this handcrafted Beech bowl, or let it stand as a stunning centerpiece on your table. The bowl features beautiful Beech grain with a slight touch of spalting, adding unique character. A wide, undercut rim enhances its shape, drawing the eye to its smooth curves.
Unique Natural Features
A dead knot once sat in this piece, altering the surrounding grain and creating an interesting natural feature. Rather than losing this character, I carefully removed the knot and filled the space with epoxy, preserving the visual impression of the knot while ensuring a strong, smooth surface.
Salvaged from Storm-Felled Wood
This bowl comes from a Beech tree near Beaufort, Killarney, Co. Kerry, which was blown down in a storm in 2017. I salvaged and processed the tree in late 2017 and early 2018, a labor-intensive task requiring each moisture-heavy log to be hand-lifted through a boggy field and over a ditch to reach my van.
Smooth & Durable Finish
Sanded to a smooth touch, this bowl is finished with a Hampshire Sheen undercoat and an Osmo oil finish, providing a water-resistant surface suitable for food use.
